This is a well balanced blend of chequered colours ranging from pinkish-purple through to deep purple together with some whites to give contrast. Suitable wild habitats for our native 'Snake's Head' Fritillary have declined significantly over the years but as they grow well in any moist soil you can help save them by growing some in a damp spot in your garden. This unusual and uncommon variety of Fritillaria originates from the mountains of eastern Turkey so is best grown in a gritty soil in pots in a cold frame. Perhaps a bit challenging for most amateurs but if you have got the right growing conditions well worth having a go as the brick-red flowers with their chequered yellow interiors are really quite special. This species originates from southern Turkey. The elegant pendulous bell-shaped flowers are a beautiful purple brown with bright green stripes and have an almost metallic sheen.
